i’m such a sucker for comedy series that have an emotional core. so this might be one of my favorite shows ever right alongside fleabag(!!!). for years i’ve been searching for a show that could make me cry both happy tears and sad tears the way fleabag did. i’m so glad i finally found another one to add to the list of shows i absolutely adore.

“a story about an ignorant, bigoted stand-up comedian paired with a woke gen z comedy writer.” honestly, that premise alone was enough to sell me on the show. and yes, it’s hilarious as HELLL. but what really makes hacks special is how much heart it has. it’s about two people learning from each other, and growing through their differences.

jean smart and hannah einbinder are absolutely divine. their chemistry is the backbone of the entire series, but what makes them shine even more is the incredible ensemble cast surrounding them. (megan stalter steals every scene she’s in i’m sorry)

now that it’s concluded, i can say this is what happens when showrunners have a clear vision from beginning to end. the result is a phenomenal five-season run that feels consistent from start to finish. the most beautiful thing about the show for me is that it completely sticks the landing. this one instantly became one of my favorites ever. i genuinely couldn’t be happier with how it ended.🥰🥰🥰

what also impressed me throughout its run was how willing the show to engage with all the current affairs. whether it was the anti-ai storyline or its support for palestine, i appreciated that the series wasn’t afraid to acknowledge the world around it. that’s really just the cherry on top of an already incredible series. a perfect 10 for me.👏🏼 no. notes. 🐈🐈🐈🐈🐈/meows
